I once read something from Danielle LaPorte in which she said that loving ourselves is really just treating ourselves like we would our best friend. It is showing compassion to ourselves.
I also heard an interview Lisa Nichols did in which she spoke about how we give more to others than we do to ourselves. She spoke about a self-care ritual she does every morning where she says “Lisa, I love you” as she looks at herself in the mirror. She also will give herself some other statements such as “Lisa, I’m proud that you…”, “Lisa, I forgive you for…”, “Lisa, I commit to you that…”.
Think about that.
In what ways would you treat yourself differently if you treated yourself like your best friend? How would things in your life be different if you started making commitments to yourself that you actually kept? How free would you be if you learned to accept yourself instead of beating yourself up?
We are always talking about things we want to change about ourselves. Too many times we are thinking about what we don’t like about ourselves or things that we could be doing better.
